Forest Management Certification

Forest Management certification, the one forest growers will be most interested in, is aimed at giving the consumer confidence that the timber products they are purchasing has been grown and harvested in a legal and sustainable manner. Forest growers are required to document their forest management policies and activities, which are assessed by an independent auditor against a set of criteria.

Each of the two certification schemes in which SFM participates, the Australian Forestry Standard (AFS) and the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) has its own set of requirements. These requirements cover the environmental, social, and economic aspects of forestry, with an emphasis on landscape and regional context.  A forest manager must demonstrate, in an evidence-based audit procedure, that they have considered the full range of impacts associated with their activities and implemented appropriate controls as part of a structured management system.

As a resource manager, SFM is able to meet most of these certification requirements on behalf of their clients, thus taking the worry out of certification for you, the forest grower.
