Every year the Forest Practices Authority engages independent auditors to evaluate Forest Practices Plans being prepared around the state. Each plan is evaluated against up to 139 questions, with each answer being a ranking between “Unacceptable” to “High Standard”. In the 2009/10 financial year, 7 plans prepared by SFM staff were scrutinised, all scoring extremely well. 93% of our rankings were in the “Sound” or better categories, with 73% in the “High Standard” range. The few low rankings were of administrative nature, and none were deemed to require follow-up compliance work by the FPA. With the increased awareness of procedures and business systems brought to SFM through its recent AFS certification, our aim is to show continual improvement on these excellent results in years to come.
