SFM employs a highly trained team of forestry professionals who have extensive experience in harvesting and supply chain logistics.  Its aim is to achieve the best returns possible for the landowner by ensuring the resource is correctly segregated and processed. This in turn maximizes landowner royalties by selling each product at their maximum value and not allowing higher value products to be undersold.

All forest planning, assessments, associated permits and documentation are completed by SFM’s team of in-house professionals.  SFM’s operational staff actively manage all components of the forest harvesting process from roading to regeneration assessments.

Harvesting and Haulage

All forest planning, assessments, associated permits and documentation are completed by SFM’s team of in-house professionals.  SFM’s operational staff actively manage all components of the forest harvesting process. SFM has the capacity to undertake harvesting under its Group Certification Scheme so that the wood is certified allowing access to a broader range of markets

SFM are specialised in salvage operations including the salvage harvest of bushfire affected forest and plantation, dam inundation projects and underwater harvesting via Hydrowood.

 

Marketing and Sales

SFM is committed to selling timber products into the highest value, highest return market. Along with our independence this has meant that SFM have a diverse range of markets for the various products segregated in the forest. SFM is able to match domestic and export markets to its resource and by offering customers wood products that are certified to globally recognized standards gaining entry into markets otherwise inaccessible. As certification continues to become more widely accepted and demanded by consumers, SFM’s ability to market and sell certified timber will provide more landowners with an opportunity to market their resource and aim for the highest possible net return.

 

Safety Systems

Nothing is more important to SFM than the safety of our staff and contractors. As managers of forest operations we have a duty of care to ensure forest operations are carried out in a manner which minimise workers exposure to the risk of injury. Safety is central to the planning and management of all activities. SFM staff are dedicated to maintaining and constantly improving our safety systems and processes.

SFM’s Safety Management System has been audited against the Australian Safety Standard. SFM requires its contractors to hold detailed SMS documents and conducts audits monthly to monitor contractor compliance.

SFM actively works with its contractors to identify and manage hazards through Forest Operations Safety Plans. SFM requires its contractors to notify us of any incidents that occur on site and actively work with them to investigate and implement changes if required.
